Space Division and Acoustics in an Open Space

Zoning the space creatively while adding visual accents—these were the acoustic challenges for the ZDF casino in Mainz. GFAG excellently met all requirements with its flexible AXON space partitioning system. Suspended absorbers were used to acoustically and visually separate areas in the long term, while movable partition absorbers were employed to flexibly direct visitor flow. Led by ZDF, the absorbers were finished in the network’s corporate identity colors. Among the wide variety of different wall absorbers, the highlight of the entire project was a single, over 26-meter-long and highly effective acoustic mural featuring the “Mainzelmännchen” characters.

Construction Management: 4 Senkrecht Architekten, Oestrich-Winkel

The focus was on clearly defined zones, improved wayfinding, and acoustic calming of the large open space.

The result is a significantly reduced reverberation time and improved speech intelligibility.

To counteract reflections from hard surfaces, highly effective absorbers made from recycled PETwere used.
